Ruthann Friedman - Constant Companion
Friedman may be more well known for penning The Associations' "Windy" and for her acquaintances with 60's luminaries like David Crosby, Joni Mitchell, Van Dyke Parks and Jefferson Airplane than
she is for her own quietly beautiful LP, but that remains just one more travesty of time. The album mines the same inroads that a few of her more folk oriented contemporaries trod, twisting past the introverted tales of Judee Sill, falling just sort of the otherworldly charm of Linda Perhacs and picking alongside Jo Ann Kelly. Thankfully Water Records has rescued this surely lost treasure from obscurity and tacked on an additional cut that Friedman produced while she was acquaintances with Parks. Ether has also just issued another lost single from the same time period, the similarly folky "White Dove" backed with a more 60's blues rock oriented cut, "Motorcycle Madness". Fans of any of the aforementioned artists would definitely be wise to add this to their collection.
