Acid Mother's Temple

Despite being a cornerstone of RSTB in the past it feels like its been a little while since Kawabata and Co. have appeared on the site. Well, I suppose the wait is over because the group is back with a new take on an old standard. "Pink Lady Lemonade" has been a live favorite for years and even appeared on the similarly titled Pink Lady Lemonade - You're From Outer Space, Myth of the Love Electrique and a few live discs in the past and the band is exploring the familiar riff once again on Pink Lady Lemonade - You're From Inner Space. Launching the album with a thirty-plus minute take on the title track, they build up the track from space-rock swirlings to guitar flailings before delving into three more movements that explore the noisier, synthier sides of the motif before returning back to the guitar origins it started in. Honestly I've moved away from some of the band's later releases but this feels like a homecoming of sorts, with explosive guitar and spacey synth brought right back into focus and tied down to a molten theme that seems to speak to longtime fans of the band. Plus the whole thing is outfitted in a collage by Felix Morel with a return to their label roots at Alien8. Definitely one to pick up if you're even a casual fan of the band.
